Alwin co-heads the Employment and Industrial Relations team and is a member of the Dispute Resolution and Arbitration group.

He is well-versed on both sides of employment litigation, having worked for employers and employees giving a wide-eye view to any issue faced by the client combined with practical solutions beneficial to the client.  Alwin is involved in litigation and advisory work in relation to dismissals, disputes, termination, retrenchment, personal data protection as well as handling employment aspects during any merger and acquisition period. Alwin also handles criminal and quasi-criminal matters in relation to immigration laws as well as occupational safety and health laws.

He has represented clients at the Labour Court, Industrial Court, High Court and Court of Appeal as well as the subordinate courts in non-employment cases throughout his career.

Outside of the firm, Alwin sits on the Malaysian Bar & Kuala Lumpur Bar Sports Committee having served as the Chairman of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Sports Committee from 2015 to 2017 and has been invited to present talks on employment law and defamation law for the Kuala Lumpur State Bar.

Alwin is fluent in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Tamil.

Notable Work Highlights

 

Legal Practice

  • Advised a major Malaysian online company listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange in exiting their chief executive officers from two of their Malaysian subsidiaries;

  • Advised one of Malaysia’s leading public listed corporations involved in automotive manufacturing, assembly and distribution in their dismissal of several employees;

  • Acted for multinational conglomerate diversified in entertainment, gaming and financial services in industrial relations cases;

  • Acted for companies in cases involving Immigration Act and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) enforcement;

  • Represented a major producer of Malaysian necessary goods in trade union negotiations and acted in Industrial Court disputes resulting from retrenchment exercises;

  • Assisted a Malaysian branch of an intergovernmental organization on employment aspects; and

  • Reviewed entire employment aspect during merger and acquisition process as well as ensuring employee handbook and relevant human resources procedures are legally compliant.
