Our Managing Partner Mr. Suaran Singh was recently invited to give a talk in the Faculty of Law, University Malaya for the Asian Law Student’s Association (ALSA) University Malaya Symposium Event - Dawn of Industry 4.0, Tides of Change in the Legal Landscape.
The event lasted 3 days from 13th March 2018 to 15th March 2018. Suaran’s talk was on 14th March 2018 and the Forum for that day was ‘The Legal Profession in Industry 4.0, Are we ready to Surf the Wave?’. His talk was titled ‘Challenges towards the Digital Transformation of the Legal Sector in Malaysia’.
The 3 day event was attended by many esteemed guest such as Mr Suaran himself, Ms. Michelle Sunita Kammar (Senior Case Counsel in the International Arbitration Centre of Asia), Mr. Mohamed Fadzlee Sulaiman (CyberDEF Manager, Digital Forensics at CyberSecurity Malaysia), Mr. Foong Cheng Leong (Deputy Chairperson of Malaysia Bar Information Technology & Cyber Law Committee), Dr. Aswami Ariffin (Senior Vice President, Cyber Security Responsive Services, CyberSecurity Malaysia), Mr. T.M Lee (Co-Founder of CoinGecko), Dr. Farrukh Habib (International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance), Mr. Chris D. Tran (Director of QRC Group), Mr. Aaron Ting, Secretary of ACCESS Blockchain Association Malaysia, and many esteemed senior lecturers and professors in University Malaya and other Malaysian Universities.
In his talk, Suaran spoke at length about lawyers and technology, the history and progression of legal technology, artificial intelligence and its effect on the legal profession, blockchains, the future of lawyers with the advent of artificial intelligence, implications of artificial intelligence in the distant future, and challenges towards the digital transformation of the legal sector in Malaysia.
Suaran is the firm’s co-head of Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group.
